Twincam Logo Idea

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Some of you will know that the old school Toyota logo (often referenced as TEQ or TE7) is actually the word Toyota written in Japanese Katakana.

I thought I’d check out what it would look like if the word TWINCAM (tsu-i-n-ka-m) was written in the same style, thinking of eventually having a sticker put on the back of my car where the English twincam sticker used to be). Here’s some mockups of what it could possibly look like (from the first, which is pretty chaotic, to the most recent):

I haven’t worked out the best way to have the ‘i’ and ‘n’ yet… I found a way where they fit perfectly together but then the ‘n’ looks more like a ‘ri’, which makes it unreadable. There’s also still way too much whitespace.

Edit: on posting this, I realise that I should add the number 16 at the end…

Traveling

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Long time, no post!

We’ve been travelling through Australia for the past few months now, and have amassed just over 15,000km of driving from Adelaide, around KI, through the Red Centre and up to North QLD, and we are now on the Gold Coast. An approximate route of our journey thus far can be found here on google maps.

Cannonball Run Memorial
Three of the photos I took while passing the cannonball memorial in the Northern Territory are now featured on the Cannonball Run (Darwin 1994) website, on the ‘After the race’ page.

Here’s some shots from today of a property for sale between Truro and Blanchetown, SA. Pretty much my first outback photoshoot.

Motorkhana Come and Try - MGCC

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Had a go at being an official timer at the MG Car Club’s Motorkhana event yesterday. Probably a record for the amount of cars there - in the 60s I believe. Also managed to put in four runs - one of which ended up being somewhere in the top 8 for the Atom configuration.

Tightened handbrake, but when pulled at full strength, nothing seemed to lock up, even on the wet concrete. I reckon the rear pads are just poor ones the mechanic put on when I had the rear brakes replaced. My last run was my fastest, where I substituted my left arm pull with the regular brakes and changed my lines for maximum width usage to keep my speed up.

Atkinson is Bad Boy Bubby

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

I was shocked when I learned about the law that South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson passed a few days ago. This law bans all advertising of R18+ films in South Australia, including the requirement for DVD retailers to cover up the covers (banning the display of the cover), displaying only the title of the film.

This is a terrible blow to the Australian Film Industry. Film makers will have no motivation to push the limits of portraying the issues of society, like the South Australian film, Bad Boy Bubby. This is a multiple award winning film, which won four 1994 Australian Film Institute awards; Best Director (Rolf de Heer), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Nicholas Hope), Best Original Screenplay (Rolf de Heer) and Best Editing (Suresh Ayyar); also nominated for Best Film (Rolf de Heer) and Best Cinematography (Ian Jones), and not to mention the international awards it has listed on it’s cover.

If the VHS/DVD/Bluray cover of Bad Boy Bubby is completely censored, then people might skim past the film in the isle, and will not know about the success of this South Australian film. On the other hand, I haven’t read the details of this law, for example if the censoring outer covering of the movie case has to be a certain colour. If it is the same colour for all R films (grey, red, etc), these movies will actually stand out in the movie isles.

In my opinion, Atkinson has put this absurd law into effect such that if/when we get an R18+ games classification, the game covers will be covered (advertising ban), while the content not. What will be next? Magazine covers? Book covers?

What do the people have to say? Search for Michael Atkinson on twitter.

Kseed Website

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Another website I had the fortune to work on was Kseed.

Although Butter Creative made the design, I was responsible for converting the layout designed in Illustrator to an actual website.

Due to the need for a specific font, the website is particularly heavy with images.

A subtle addition is a dynamically width-changing top picture.

Take a look at Kseed.

Cloudberry Interiors Website

Thought I would create a post celebrating the last website I worked on last year. I was responsible for the layout of the design, the coding, and photography of the site.

Have a look.
