Resident Evil: Extinction minireview

Just watched this in HD.
Visual style: nice yellow filters give it a very much dusty and deserted style. Great editing, because I didn’t notice it. It’s a pity they overly softened Milla’s facial skin tones in post production. She looks more like a doll in the movie, as oversoftening skin in postproduction automatically removes all facial hair, making her face look unnaturally smooth. While she has no lines on her face as a result, they forgot to photoshop her necklines as well (Sorry Milla!!).

Camerawork: Good for a modern action flick. A few really nice shots. One memorable one early in the film is a sideways tracking wide shot of Milla riding her bike on the highway across the barren landscape with mountains in the background, that zooms out, keeping Milla stationary within the 2D frame, getting smaller and smaller. The motion in this shot is first class, and visually achieves a sense of scale.

Main settings: Apocalyptic deserts and dunes, empty highways, high tech underground facilities.

Simplification: Mad Max + Doom.
