Hot coffee

Saturday, July 23rd, 2005

On this whole GTA San Andreas Hot Coffee ‘controversy’, I’d like to quote a comment I read this evening:

“Beat the living **** or killing someone in a videogame = Good.
Having sex (or showing genitals) in a video game = Bad.

Sex = pleasure, comfort, security, life.
Pain = Misery, insanity, death.

What the hell is wrong here?
I think the romans had that whole damn Sex/Violence thing figured out, we’ve (the US) have taken a step-back in terms of human behaviour.”

I recieved a letter today saying that I’m within the top 15% of the whole University of Adelaide. Yay!

Finished 1st semester of Hons

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005

YAAAAAY!!!!!! I completed my university semester 7 yesterday, by handing up my major essay discussing the game and simulation aspects of Big Brother. I’ve never felt so happy that the semester’s over.
Results have come in for my video - drumroll… High Distinction :D

Woot!

Unfortunately we’ve been without broadband for 11 days, and while our ISP gave orders to telstra to fix it up, they still haven’t done anything. I’m on dialup at the moment :’(

Now its time to clean up my room, do some other stuff, and play Live For Speed S2 :)

Video Release: Music Video - Colliding Temporalities

This video is around two months in the making, utilising over 100gbs of video (minidv compressed), and an adobe premiere project file that ended up being over 38MBs. This video was my final project for Video Production B at the University of Adelaide. Enough of that, here’s the description:

Featuring in-car footage of real drivers, driving around Fern Bay and Blackwood, this music video pitches an aggressive GTT drifter against a cautious LX racer. What happens when they meet?

The interior car shots were filmed inside a 2004 Birkin S3 Clubman and a 2001 Hyundai Accent, and were bluescreened into LFS. Filmed in my car port (open garage) and backyard, and of course, Live For Speed. The dream sequence includes Blackwood ON FIRE. Filmed for basically zero bucks.

Cast:
Racer - Damian Wheeler - DJ Glass
Drifter - August Boehm - ORt [Gusto]

Music:
Victor Van Vlaardingen - Unbended Mind, Live For Speed S1 Soundtrack, 2003
ACME - Awesome, 1999

HDTV

I now have a DVICO HDTV USB tuner. Now I can watch, pause, replay, and record High Definition Digital television (where available). Quite a cheap and high quality upgrade ;)

I saw the Korean film Old Boy last Wednesday - great revenge film.
I just watched Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. I thought it was an average film, but then after it had finished, I realised that I had watched it all through stereo pro logic and not Dolby Digital. I rewatched the opening scene in 5.1 (I think I’ll be analysing the sound of it for my weekly assignment), and the difference in sound quality is absolutely amazing. Might have to watch it again in 5.1. Hmm - perhaps I should watch the GitS DVD in 5.1 sometime. Hurrah for the old PC game Syndicate Wars which included a preview of it in-game ;)
