Long time, no post.

Last semester finished quite well. I completed both of my major essays on time, and was very pleased with my writing. Well, I’ll get the results next week.

Holidays so far have been alright, but haven’t been getting out much. I’ve mainly
been reading borrowed mags and DVDs (I’m nearing the end of my 1 month free Webflicks account), going to the cinema (Troy and Van Helsing - VH was more exciting :P), working on the computer/s at home (I currently have Doom and Powerslide successfully networked between a Win98 P2 and a WinXP P4), and playing games (Vice City / Far Cry / Flight Sims). Far Cry (demo) is excitingly fun, and the high vegetation levels compelled me to ride to Waterfall Gully last Sunday. I also went to the Auto Salon high performance car modification show at the showgrounds, which was, interesting (110 photos).

I’ve also been thinking about what to do after Uni - I see my current possibilities to be in the Games Industry, for a film/TV Station, or teach English in Japan. That was until Chika (Media degree convener and lecturer) emailed us about this Media Project course. Looks like a very challenging course. Now, we have to think of a project to undertake, like creating a small business, organising a ‘rock’ concert… Have to start thinking about that, although I am still in the middle of (my five and a half week) holidays.

Today I went to an Iaido seminar, which was good fun, despite having to get up early (8am). I’ve now learnt a few more techniques, increased my knowledge of swordsmanship, and can now play music with the air (ha ha! Just you try that!!). It’s fundeedun, except for my aching hamstring and sore knee (it was too cold today, and my strange knee injury from two weeks ago slightly reappeared due to kneeling on the wooden floor).

Currently playing: Travis - She’s So Strange

A Rimmer (Red Dwarf) lookalike, cyborg three headed flying monsters, time travel, miniture city destruction and godzilla - what a great combination for today’s midday movie on SBS, “Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah”!

The introduction of the movie ‘Seven Beauties’ (1975 Italy) - oh yeah.

Well, the police have recovered our cameras. The buggers wiped dad’s memory card, while they deleted mine one by one (that would have taken a while, there were around 200 photos on there). I can tell this by the fact that when I take another photo, that the filename of the photo is still the number of the photos that the memory card has taken (unlike Dad’s, which is 0001). They in fact took 197 photos with my camera. Sods.

This is an interesting game idea - ‘writing’ to the tempo of music…

Well, I guess it’s time for an update.

The last two-three weeks have been spent shooting and editing a 13 minute video production that discusses the convergence between television and the internet, with a focus on reality tv. We made our own reality tv show called ‘Sink Or Swim’, where contestants try to renovate a dilapolated swimming pool, and is broadcast entirely through the internet.

Last thursday morning (between 1.30am and 8am) an unwelcome visitor burgled our dining room while we slept. Fortunately they only took our two cameras and not the computer. If they had taken the computer, then nine members of our group might have scored zero for a presentation that afternoon. The presentation went well, although less than half of the course students were there to view the best video in all the presentations (all the others were equivilant of high school media productions). Got some positive feedback, but only from a few people (in this case, positive means extremely positive).

I wasn’t too attached to the Canon A40 (it is replaceable), although the 128mb card still had photos from Japan on it.

On more current news, I’m having troubles choosing a text to analyse for my Media Theory essay on engulfment/immersion in film/games. Check this out for a humorous look at an idea for an Ultimate War Simulator.
