Update time! I’m back into the studying spirit, although some would say I have a five day weekend (cue evil laugh). Doom 3 came out last week, but I’m not too keen on trying it out quite yet. Instead, my latest gaming craze which has lasted so far for the past 3-5 weeks is Live For Speed, an online racing simulator. It is the most realistic car driving simulator I have ever played, minus the lack of damage (Viper Racing was my previous number 1 realistic racer; S2 will have a damage model :D), and is just asking for me to go and buy a steering wheel and pedals (accelerator, brake, and hopefully a clutch is included :D). I play it currently with the mouse movement controlling the analogue steering, as a keyboard is insufficent for the instantaneous and precise steering movement. Two weeks ago I started learning drifting techniques via a Best Motoring DVD with Keiichi Tsuchiya explaining six techniques. Drifting is the art of creating, and controling oversteer, such that a car travels through a corner sideways. Very fun, and extremely challenging. Yesterday I bought LFS (S1 licence), and the extra cars are all very unique in their control and style. The AI on the other hand are just plain aggressive and consistently side-, and rear-end me (same as the demo). The graphics and detail of the extra tracks are of a higher standard than that of the demo. The city track is just plain great. It is also really cool to be able to play a game at 1280×1024 at a high frame rate :D
