adboehm.8k.com version 1.5 UPDATE
Whoo-hooo! Well, now that University’s out of the way for a little while (I have to start thinking about it again soon though), I managed to find the time tonight after giving up fixing my computer, to finally apply this update. Pages are a bit bigger in size (kb wise), but I hope the improvement lasts for a while. I am thinking of updating this site to 2.0 using DHTML (and no tables!!!) or some other ‘newer’ markup language(s), sometime within the next few years :P.
On other fronts of web development, I am to contribute to the website of AUMA before the end of the holidays.

Just quickly…
pop over to catboxing.com and download the Cat-astrophe! video (2.7 Meg). It was showing on a computer at Tandy Electronics in Marion Shopping Centre on Friday night, and rather caught my attention. Also check out the pics at this Japanese site, for some cat hats and clothing stuff. One last thing; go to google.com, type in ‘weapons of mass destruction’, and click ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’.

One other thing, for those who have played the game Max Payne, go see the short film (made by a student) at www.maxpaynehero.com

New, fast, and problems…

Wow, it’s been a while since my last entry. Much has happened since then.

Got the new computer at home on Friday the 6th from IT Warehouse. New specifications: Motherboard: 512MHz FSB; CPU: 2.66GHz; RAM: 512 PC2700DDR; GPU: MSI GeForce4 Ti4800se8x (comes with 10 cds); DVD-ROM: 16x. They put it together, as well as transplanting the harddrives and modem from the busted comp. WinXP did not like it’s new hardware environment one bit (reset during bootscreen, also during ’safe’ mode booting), and Win98se needed a few drivers to run. Reinstalled WinXP, installed drivers, software etc, and everything seems fine and faaast, except for a few things.
I notice the two new MSI tags in Display Properties do not work (cause Disp.Prop to terminate). I also notice the supplied software for hardware graphics card monitoring does not work at all. Moreso, primarily when DirectX applications are running (such as Kyodai Marjongg, GTA3 and Vice City), WinXP shuts down with STOP errors after around 30mins or 2-3 hours.
After searching the Internet, I’ve fixed the Disp.Prop problem, and found that apparently my Ti4800se doesn’t support hardware monitoring. As for the STOP errors, they could be for a number of reasons - bad RAM, overheating of the GPU, or bad Display Drivers. The latter I currently agree with, but all three are plausable. RAM: I tested it with DocMemory PC RAM Diagnostic Software 4 times and all tests passed. GPU: apparently this card has rather unusual heatsink attachment (or lack of). As for Display Drivers, the supplied ones don’t work properly, and the newest Nvidia ones don’t either :S. I’m currently trying older versions, hoping that this is the problem. I just want to play RealGTA3 and Vice City without crashes!!! (so I don’t have to redo missions). I opened a thread over at Experts Exchange.

Now Blogger has been updated with a wonderful new interface, and lotsa fixes… Now, once I get probs fixed with the comp, I’ll get back to updating adboehm.8k.com to v1.5.

I finally finished the semester on monday, by writing non-stop for two and a half days straight (I am wondering how I did that) on September 11 for Media and Culture.

I have to see Spirited Away these holidays, among a number of interesting films.
